You have had plenty of time to try out the habit of eating slowly. How did that go for you? When I first started with that habit, I realized that up until that point I did not think a lot about how I was eating. Mostly, I would wolf my food down as if I was always starving. I didn’t really put a lot of thought into what I was eating either. For the most part, I was eating to satisfy my hunger. It took quite a while for me to get the hang of eating slowly because I was so conditioned to eating quickly.
At this point, my eating experience is dramatically different. First of all, my food choices are much better than ever before. And second of all, I enjoy my meals like never before. I notice flavors that I never thought about because eating slowly allows you to taste your food. Now that I eat mainly whole foods I stay satisfied much longer after a meal. I rarely have those moments where I need to just put something in my stomach to take away the hunger pangs. I feel better, and I look better.
That being said, it now brings us to the next step in the process. It takes twenty minutes for your body to realize that you have had enough food. If you scarf down your meals, most likely you will become stuffed entirely and tired quickly after you eat. Think about it. For me, that puts a damper on my time because now, I have no energy to get my day going or to end my day because I am too tired to move! When you eat slowly, you will start to learn when you have had enough. Eat until you are 80% full. That way, you will not end up overstuffed when your body registers it has had enough.
